This series of works originates from the 2024 diptych Senza Titolo (Untitled). The original work, on canvas, established an orientation system: LA MIA SINISTRA È LA TUA DESTRA; LA TUA DESTRA È LA MIA SINISTRA. (My left is your right; your right is my left).
When this logic is transferred to the body, it transforms into an intimate structure of relationship and equality. Through embroidery in the Italian language, two T-shirts construct a mirrored relationship, forming a closed system of symmetry. In this system, equality is no longer enunciated as a concept but exists as a physical mechanism constituted through the reciprocal dependence of the gaze. The oversize silhouette dissolves the gender distinctions of the body, translating existence within the relationship into equivalent volumes.
The Buddhist rosary (mala) is composed of 108 beads; this work uses only half of them, forming a limited edition of 54 sets.
Consequently, at the moment it leaves the studio, the work is already in a state of “incompleteness”: it is a broken string of beads and, simultaneously, an interrupted logical system. The originally cold typeface is translated into manual embroidery, allowing the rational structure to acquire a sense of delay and temperature at the material level.
The other half of the beads is entrusted to the two people wearing the garments, who are called to complete the cycle together.
The work exists exclusively as a pair and cannot be separated or collected individually. It is offered only to those in relationships willing to complete the 108-bead structure. When this process occurs, the diptych as a fluid system is activated, and its life begins.
01/54 is with the artist.
